"Oxford, with much the higher rated team, scored their third consecutive victory over Cambridge in the 101st official match between the senior universities. There was no squabbling over eligibility for this contest... Cambridge still lead overall in the series by a margin of six matches." (BCM) [BCM says 'we hope to quote a more detailed account next month by the match referee, Harry Golombek' but nothing ever appeared]

The Guardian, 14 March 1983, p2 (by Leonard Barden): "Oxford defeated Cambridge 6-2 in the annual Varsity chess match sponsored by Lloyds Bank in London at the weekend. Oxford included several master players and was probably the strongest ever in the series. It was their third successive victory. Ken Regan, the US international, beat Nicholas Ivell in 26 moves on top board, and David Cummings, the Oxford captain won the best game of the match. But Cambridge’s Penelope Coxon again won the women’s board where Oxford have failed to record a victory in six attempts."
