About this website

Tony Hare writes: In May 2000 I stumbled across the web site of my old school after accidentally typing "Royal Grammar School High Wycombe" into Google.

The RGS web site looked quite interesting and I couldn't wait to see if my name appeared on the list of "Famous Old Boys"....... read more

UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT

John Saunders writes: This website was founded by Tony Hare in 2000. After twenty years, Tony has decided to retire from the job and has passed the baton to me, John Saunders. I started my own website as a sort of tribute act to Tony, who concentrated on the 1950s (and later the 1940s) while I spent most of my time on the 1960s (though I have since occasionally dipped my toes in the ancient history of our school).

So, as of 30 June in this fateful year of our lord 2020, I'm now custodian of all the material that Tony and I have collected over these past two decades. First of all I'd like to offer my heartfelt thanks to our founder, Tony Hare, and wish him and his wife a long and happy retirement. Tony is a hard act to follow but I shall do my best.

At the moment the two sites are running in parallel here but the longer term plan is for them to merge. For the time being I'm going to leave this page in place - evolution, not revolution!

Hey, look here.....

Dolly the Sheep

I've been cloned !!!!

Tony Hare writes: Back in 2003 John Saunders sent me an email saying how good he thought my site was - I sent one back saying "Why don't you do one for your era?". So he did.
It's brilliant, go check it out now!
(1958 - 1967)

John has also set up 'Memories: RGS High Wycombe', which is a Flickr group featuring hundreds of photos and images of the school and people connected with it.

The school also has its own Facebook page

Tony Hare writes: From its origins circa 2000 as a small website featuring my copy of the 1956 School Photograph and my attempts to put names to some of the faces, this website has expanded to cover photographs for other years within the forties & fifties as well as a growing amount of memorabilia on other RGS subjects
